Creating games with Unity 2020.1

I am currently building a game in 2019.4 for a Udemy course. Since I have very little experience with Unity, I am unsure whether or not it is safe to begin building future games in 2020.1. Should I be able to create my next game in 2020.1 without issues or would it be best to wait for a while before using the latest version?

Thanks!

Yes, you can make a new game using Unity 2020.1. There will be some changes between 2020.1 and 2020.2, though. And it will be a while before some of the docs and tutorials catch up with all of the new features available. If you are using Udemy and it has 2019.4 tutorials, then I would recommend matching the Unity version with the version used in the tutorial. But yes you can make a game with 2020.1.

Personally, I am sticking with 2019.4 on existing projects, and experimenting with both 2019.4 and 2020.1 for new prototypes. Keep in mind that you can easily install multiple Unity versions at the same time using the Unity Hub.

If you don’t need new features/fixes in the new version, it is generally best to stick with your current version. History also says it is best to treat Unity Tech releases of versions 20xx.1.0 as beta quality. If you need stability it is not a bad idea to wait until around 20xx.1.2 for the worst bugs to get fixed.
