Hi people, I am a CG CAD Artist and currently doing some RnD for my customers. Basically I need to develop an application based on real-time interactive architecture environment. There are already bunch of realtime CAD software like Twinmotion, Lumion 3D Artlantis.
I want an exact similar application but with few modifications. Like my own 3D model library of designer furniture and other interior related stuff.
I dont want High Quality Render output at the very first moment. I just want to use the application to demonstrate the look and actual placement of furniture in the my customers apartment rooms.
So first of all can this kind of application be developed in Unity? If yes then can anyone help me to create one?
I would not mind freelancing this job to any skilled developers here…
It should be very easy to create something like this. Most of what you want is art (which you do) and placement (which is ridiculously easy in Unity). If you don’t want any moving things (doors, etc) or GUI, then there’s no need for a programmer, even. Moving around and whatnot is easily taken care of by scripts that are already included with Unity.
My suggestion is to try it yourself, and then decide if you still need a developer to work with you on it.
Thanks for the suggestion wccrawford. I am a total noob at game engines… Can you point me to some tuts that can help me develop this application please?
It really depends on how exactly you want to use the application. If you don’t mind spending a bit of time in the unity editor placing items and wall sections etc and changing materials then as it stands the unity editor makes it perfectly possible to place items to build up your clients apartment. And as wccrawford said, this wouldn’t need any extra code or application. You could just do it all in the standard unity editor.
However if you want to be able to quickly change a item or the colour of a item, change the type of flooring or knock down a wall while you are talking to a client, so that you can show them how a different style might look, then I think you would need at least a GUI that made those things as easy and quick as possible to do.
So now a bit of self promotion, but I’m currently working on a somewhat simlar application. I posted about my early work on it, in a post http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/50458-Building-Design-Creation-tool-WIP, quite some time ago and have recently started working on it again. Improving it and making it also able to run in the unity editor mode. While the current focus is on the actual building design (floor plan of the rooms and changing floor and wall covering etc ) rather than the interior furniture. I do plan to add support for placing furniture at a later date.
I’m currently still deciding on how I will release it, but currently am thinking of releasing it on the Asset store, and hope that will be in the next month or so.
So while it might not be exactly what you are thinking about, I would be interested in your thoughts and feedback, and I might be able to make it meet your needs better.
This is the sort of technology I am developing right now for a project.
However I am literally booked about solid for the next 6 months. If your project could wait 6 months, I could help you, and you could benefit from my prior work as over these next 6 months I am developing something similar for another company.
If you would like to send me a private message, we can talk some more, discuss what your expecting.
MWR.
Interesting!!
Your concept seems very much similar, but the grid used to create the building or rooms is quite huge. The drawing grid or plane has to be in foots/inches.
Just study this whole website http://www.homestyler.com/
See the GUI and features… I want an exact same offline version…
the whole purpose is to have our own sets of furniture and various home related assets into this application which works offline and we can update the asset collection time to time.
I’ve actually been talking to some of our clients within the Danish architecture community to do the same type of app. We also have a network code available (from a previous project), so you can do the presentation multiplayer, e.g. showcase the 3D design from one location while the clients logs on from another location. Kind of cool I think
I think this market is interesting and I’d be happy to talk on how this prototyping might work within the realm of the LoveMyHome Platform. If you don’t know what that is yet, you can have a look at the video below and this site http://b2b.lovemyhome.net/interior.aspx
