How can I create a rope bridge?
Hy all!
How can I create a rope bridge?
All elements of the bridge need to be rigidbodies. Connect them with hinge joints.
I have 2 ropes, but they don’t fit the fixed points. I mean a rope connects two cylinders, and the start point is fix, but the rope’s end is moving around the end point.
I brought the rope from here: http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/35006-Rope-Script-V2-now-availiable-8-08-10
And I would like to insert some slat (spacer? I don’t know that in english) to the ropes, I hope you know, what I want to do ![]()
The problem is the slats are fixed to the air, and the ropes are swinging beneath that.
How can I connect them make a feel like I’m moving on a rope bridge?
At the very end of the bridge you need to add another hinge joint, that has no connected body.
Well, I select the rope, and clicked to hinge joint. I selected the “stick1”. Then created another hinge joint on the rope, selected the “stick2”. The problem is the same.
At the end your setup needs to look as follows (don’t know how many stickX objects you have):
stick1: rigidbody component, hinge joint component which has stick2 as connected body (take care to have the correct anchor and axis coordinates)
stick2: rigidbody component, hinge joint component which has stick3 as connected body (take care to have the correct anchor and axis coordinates)
…
That’s the actual bridge. Now you need one more hinge joint for the first and last stick, such that they are attached to the point where they are at the beginning. Those joints are not allowed to have a connected body, but again take care to have the correct anchor and axis coordinates!
Do that carefully and have a look at the Scene, because there you see the actual anchor position with the rotation axis.
That’s not work…What about the things which are moving? They’re rigidbody, hinge joints too? You didn’t mention them.
So, I have 2 ropes, ropeA ends in stick1, stick2, ropeB ends in stickA, stickB. On the ropes there are some wood plates (slat, spacer, i don’t know what is it in english), all of the slats connected the two ropes.
As a rope bridge should looks like.
So, what angles, what anchors should I set, and what is them exactly? (I know the meaning of the words)
And what is the meaning of the hinge joint, fixed joint, spring joint?
That would help if you talk about the settings more.
Have a look at the attachment. I hope that is what you need. If you have questions about what is that value for, it is mostly a good idea to have a look in the Unity documentation. Just ask if you don’t understand something.
Hmm, I know what is the problem. I don’t know what is this:) Is it a rope?
I would like to make this kind of rope bridge:
With wider gap between those wood slats.
My bridge is now this, from my project:
I downloaded the rope from here:
http://reverieinteractive.com/downloads-2
I found this page here:
http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/35006-Rope-Script-V2-now-availiable-8-08-10
I created the rope in my project as you could see, and I set the two endpoint of those ropes.
The problem is the second endpoint don’t fit to the adjusted object, the rope’s ending is rotating around that.(around the white stick)
Same problem with the another rope.
I don’t know how to fix this, and how fit the wood plates moving just like a real rope bridge. If you saw the picture from my project, you can see how should that work.
The image I showed you from the scene view, not realtime footage.
Now I understand. What you are trying to achieve is extremly complex. It is, from my point of view, necessary to simplify the physical situation, such that it can be stable. If you don’t use two ropes, but only the plants in between and connect them to each other as I described. At the end the question is, if it is really needed that you are using two ropes. Physics in games is mostly faked, such that it looks believable. If you get a stable physical behaviour like that, you may add the ropes again, but only as graphical representation.
It is up to you, but I think it is nearly impossible to get a stable solution with two physical ropes.
But I don’t know what is that thing you linked to me. And how can that helps me.
You have a certain situation in which you want to have that bridge. What you would like to build is very extremly hard to achieve. That’s why I propose you to simplify the physical situation. Try this: Forget the ropes and just connect the planks and see if the physical behaviour is acceptable for you. Just in case it is okay for you, we may have a look at how to integrage the ropes again, such that you don’t have a few planks hanging around in the air.
Perfect ![]()
That would be still good, if there would be only the planks (now I know that’s name
) connected to the ropes. But I think only the performance can be dangerous point, since the two roundy wood things are connecting just like as the planks.
And the barrier don’t need physics, I only forgot to say that.
edit: But the problem is the same with it. I connect a vertical stable stick with stick1, hinge joint, but I connect stick7 with an another vertical stable stick, hinge joint, and stick7 is rotating around it, not connecting properly to the stable stick.
Before I started this thread, I put 4 stable sticks to the ground, to hold the ropes, but they were rotating around their’s centers, so I freezed their coordinates. Now the stable sticks don’t move, but things are hinge joint to them are rotating just like if I didn’t freeze the sticks’ coordinates.
Could you build a package and upload it here, such that I can see in detail what is going on?
I sent a PM for you, with a link to my project. The bridge is “fallen apart”, because that’s under construction ![]()
I’ll check. Won’t have time in the next few days, but be sure I will have a look.
Just insert the attached prefab to your scene (the coordinates should be just fine if you drag it to the Hierarchy). It is not very nice, but physically it is stable.

I worked in Blender with armatures nowadays(I have some unanswered questions there too), but now I returned to Unity. Now I know how can I fix my bridge to work just like this. Thanks.
plzz help mee
m new in unity
me also make same rope bridge but in 2D project. we can creat the rope bridge with the help of small box attach with hing joints
but problam is that its so elactic
when car can crose the bridgee then bridge can vibratee
plzz helpp me
