CTE(Custom Terrain Editor) support for FBX model terrain editing

Csustom Terrain Editor(CTE) provieds support for FBX model terrain editing. This system is very similar to Unity’s own terrain system, so you will find CTE very easy-to-use.

Unity Assets Store

Main functions:

  • Edit terrain height

Interesting, how is the performance compared to the built in terrain?
What is the benefits of using this one instead of the built in system?

Unity terrain system does not support for the FBX model editing, so I made CTE for this shortcoming.
CTE can making terrains on mobile and web platforms.

A video of what the editing workflow looks like would be nice to compare to unity’s terrain edition features.

Very very interesting, do you know how it compares to T4M ? http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/123282-T4M-Black-Edition

So this allows painting on Mesh terrain ?

I think a video is going to be needed as what you describe as the main functions are what the built in terrain system does, you need to explain what makes your system better if you want people to pay $85.

Let me help out a little,

Here are the screenshots from the asset store and the link, it does seem to support the unity terrain functions on a mesh, which is awesome!

Does it also support deformation of the mesh ? That would make it a buy for me.

It seems only support painting textures, trees and grass, just the same as T4M.

I’m not sure yet because in the first post it’s stated “Edit terrain height” this might mean mesh deformation by painting on the mesh, like in zbrush.

When looking at this screenshot I also get the impression that something can be modified on the mesh itself, I just did not see the different brushes like in the painting tab, thats why I asked to clarify.

CTE1.1 only “Texture” support different brush. All functions will support different brush will be updated in the future.[quote=Lars Steenhoff, post: 1103782]

Interesting!

How does the tree lod work? Like in unity? Does it support tree creator trees?

The same for grass. Is there any kind of batching involved?

I am interested in all kinds of solutions for terrain modeling! Anyway, it is not clear to how I would benefit for this extension. What would be the benefit in this case compared to situation where I would use Object to terrain script for creating a terrain from obj/fbx terrain file?

Well you can place the trees with the paint tools and paint the textures, that is something you can’t do on a mesh inside unity normally.

Can we edit the terrain ?
How about a video showing how this tool works ?

Video tutorial will upload as soon as possible.[quote=“BigB, post:19, topic: 491980, username:BigB”]
