If you are a “game master” you stand a good chance of reaching “Level Red”. Looks intense. I would buy it on Steam if it were on a $.99 sale or something.

I think if they keep the narrator, music, keep the same visual style and make sure it runs at 10 fps, it would sell.
Might need Unity splash-screen to be really successful though.
I was thinking along the lines of “reduce polycount in cones and cylinders”.
The atmosphere of this trailer is a bit insane, and if they managed to keep that in the game it would work. That’s what I meant.
To me it kinda reminded of Zeno Clash - first game. Zeno clash had a bit of a… surreal feeling to it. In Zeno clash you were thrown into an alien world which operated on some sort of crazy laws that were never explained to you. And then you had to punch stuff. This “Cube - level red” trailed had similar feeling to it.
Hopefully that makes sense.
hmm my own game doesn’t have a ‘level red’… jeez wtf how am I going to match upto the gameplay of ‘cube’…
if those developers discover unity post processing effects and add more fog…well fuk I might aswel quit now.
Someone needs to do this for real. CUBE “the game” with the latest 3D graphics images. I’m not even kidding. I wish I were better at coming up with concepts. Some kind of epic concept built around a single cube.
Cube Simulator?
… I recall @GarBenjamin having a cube barbarian concept. Something like that, maybe? I don’t remember in which thread it was posted.
In my experiene, low poly untextured graphics can look absolutely amazing with modern pbr shaders, so it would work.
As for concept, the obvious idea is “order vs chaos” kind of thing (which I think I mentioned in the @GarBenjamin 's thread).
For example, you have a universe that is perfectly cubical and orderly… and on some area the order is broken by some sort of invaders that have non-cubical form. They could be organical, could be spherical, or could be some sort of eldritch abomination kind of thing. So you could take a control of a cube, and battle with the invaders as they corrupt the universe.
There was a game called Tron 2.0, and it had several levels build around similar “corruption” concept. Tron universe was made made largely of geometric shapes and in “corrupt” segments those shapes were melting breaking into improper patterns and getting deformed. Something like that could be done here as well.
That’s an old video “for fun” but it is actually much better than many game trailers I have seen. And yes @neginfinity I’m all for someone making a game like this. I’d like to think the industry has matured enough over the past 10 years that something like this could be a big hit.
I don’t know about others but when I see something like this I see a kind of endless amount of possibilities. With everything being so simplistic visually yet “styled” via the narrator to be very meaningful (the dreaded… CONE). It is pretty cool really.
And in this world you can do anything you can in a AAA title and much more. Or can if a dev did it. Maybe cube can transform into a plane and glide. The only limit is a person’s imagination. And the very simplistic visuals means that side won’t be a huge obstacle to doing whatever a dev wants to do.
Im not a fan of 10 fps but otherwise yes yes yes. It would sell at least one copy if I knew about it. I actually didn’t even realize it was a joke at first and got a bit exited.
I think anyone who grew up watching early 3d in the 80 would have a fondness for the style they are parodying, the monotech computer at the end is also a dead give away of the joke, I would say this trailer is actually well done and constructed and appeal to my nostalgia!
CUBE!!
The best part of this, Unity has been hiding CUBE!! in front of us this whole time!

@JamesArndt1 - But sadly you’re mistaken - it’s not a cube. It’s 3 Arrows lol.
