Culling terrain objects?

Is there a way to alter the distance that Unity culls objects such as grass, bushes, etc when created via the terrain editor?

I have a scene with some large swaying bushes, and a corn field. As my character gets near them the bushes at the lower edge of the screen get culled or switched off suddenly, making a nice lush field with swaying vegetation look very odd.

It is almost like there is a setting which we dont have any access to. I am talking about the near camera culling distance, I want to have control over when my billboards get culled at a close distance to the camera.

To be clear I dont mean the near clipping distance of the cemra itself, this has no effect on the vegetation culling issue I am experiencing.

If that setting is ‘billboard start’ in terrain editor settings (which I think it is) mine goes no lower than 5 which is no good for my project.

Sure that it is not your main camera near clipping plane?

Unless I’m wrong (not at my mac right now), the billboard start is only for trees at which point they go to billboard mode. details (grass) are always billboards so they have no need to switch to them

Dreamora,

you are correct the one I noted above is for where models become billboards in the distance.

I know the near clipping plane on my main camera is not to blame as I have set it very very low 0.0005 in fact, with no discernable difference.

I am wondering if a setting exists but it is not exposed in the Unity Editor, which specifically alters the grass clipping/culling?

anyone any ideas about this please?
