Currently supported animation types exporting from Blender

I’ve been digging through old posts on the forum and can’t seem to find a definitive answer as to what is supported when exporting animations from Blender. So far, it appears that armature (skinned) animations created in the Action Editor work. Are there any other supported animations types besides armature?

You can also animate the object transforms (position, rotation and scale) in the NLA editor.

Armature animation exporting proved to be easy but I could not get any other animations to export.

GusM, you mentioned that object transforms can be exported in the NLA editor. Isn’t the NLA editor just an interface to blend Actions and IPO’s? I tried creating an IPO animation which showed up in the NLA editor as expected but it doesn’t export to Unity3D. Not to mention Blender only allows one NLA blended animation.

Is there something I am missing when exporting non-boned animations? I attached a couple screenshots in Blender of the animation and a sample .blend file.

You need to export as fbx, set the animation end at the scene buttons. Of course, bone animations work much better. But it is posible to use objects too.

Thanks for the reply Gus. Does that mean object animations are limited to just one per blend file?

It seems like it may be easier to just use the Unity animation editor or boned animations if thats the case to avoid having to manually export each time…

You can build all the animations at the same timeline, one after the other, and then in Unity split them at the editor. I think Maya users do it this way. But yes, I use just bones and actions for everything, it works better.
