So in the DAM Unite 2023 talk they show materials with thumbnails
I know you can upload your own thumbnails for assets, but I was wondering if they have generated them automatically somehow?

I suppose I was specifically curious about the material thumbnails? 
I can see from the list that .mat files aren’t supported.
Does this mean that these thumbnails were generated by uploading a model that has the material embedded?

Yes these thumbnails were uploaded manually. If you upload materials from the unity editor using our package (see quick tutorial below), we will be using the preview images from the editor.
