Dead keys : really dead on the Mac ?

I wonder if anybody has found a workaround for this : so-called “dead keys”, such as ^, ¨, etc. simply don’t work with Unity GUI on the Mac - making it impossible to type characters like ô, ü, Ä, î and the like in a textfield, and forcing the user to enter such text via a copy/paste…

On Safari for Mac, if you type the same dead key twice in a Unity web player, Safari will call a one-line external window that disappears if you don’t click on it… but if you do click and resize this window, it can serve as an external text editor to copy/paste characters with dead keys, but this is the contrary of an intuitive method… and Firefox for Mac won’t call such a window anyway, so it can’t be a solution.

And the most surprising part : dead keys work perfectly on a PC, even on Safari for Windows…

You can check this on following web player, if you have a keyboard with such keys : http://www.tiviboo.com/unity/teskeys/

OK, just received an answer from Jonas on UnityAnswers, for anyone interested : http://answers.unity3d.com/questions/1335/how-can-i-use-dead-keys-with-unity-gui-on-the-mac

To anyone interested, here’s a workaround for the non-functional dead keys on Safari (Mac) : launching Safari in 32bit mode will get them back.

To avoid constant switches, you can make a backup copy of the Safari program with a different name, i.e. “Safari 64”. Both 32 and 64bit versions can even run together.
