Death Race released on Android market! Need a feedback!

Hey guys,

My app has been published on the Android store. Check it out here!

Feedback is welcome. Don’t care if its harsh one, I need to know what should I improve. Please be honest!

P.S: Apart from game let me know if it works fine on your device. Tell me your Android version and Device Brand and whether it’s tablet or phone.

Oh come on guys! I really need to know whether my game works smoothly on other devices! This is the only place I can share my finished work and get a feedback from hundreds!

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I just installed and played your game and I’ll provide some useful feedback for you.

  1. Possibly not your game, but my device (Samsung Captivate I897, very old), but it locked up on Retry. Had to force close the application.
  2. Touch response was very slow, had a delay of about 1 second before it actually jumped left/right.
  3. Menu graphics, honestly abit boring, plain red squares, you might consider making this visually a littler more appealing, try and find something that fits the theme of your game.
  4. Quit button in the main menu? On phone? I usually just hit home, unless you have a built in way to actually close the application on the device.
  5. You might consider a simple screen to give some instructions.
  6. What actually is the player, and what are the obstacles? They don’t seem to fit a road avoidance type game? This is where #5 would help explain this in game.

I hope I’m not too harsh, this is just my point of view, and others or yourself may have differences. The important thing is, congratulations on finishing a game, and getting it to the market.

Thanks man! I will work hard to solve these mistakes! I am a lame artist if you ask me :stuck_out_tongue:

Could you please specify the problem #1?

Well, my device is about 4 years old, lol, its mainly a testing device and i keep it because if i can get games to run halfway decent on it, then I am confident my games will have 0 issues on newer devices. It’s also running Firmware Gingerbread version 2.3.5, which is way out of date. I plan on updating the firmware, and if I can accomplish that, I will reinstall your game and test again.

Note, I have had this happen on other games as well, my device will lock up or restart.

The game, if you can call it that, does not work on a Nexus. The small black spot, which I assume is the player, does not move and is almost immediately hit by a big black spot.

If you want an honest opinion then I would say this is not really a game and should have only been used as a learning experience and not released as it does you no favours. Looking at your google page I would be amazed if anyone other than people here who are trying to help would install this title. The screen shots look awful, you have no game logo or title screen, in fact, again to be honest you have nothing here other than a scrolling tarmac texture map.

It would seem that google play have no approval process because really this is nowhere near ready to be called a game or to be released. It seems more like a tech demo or proof of concept but even those usually offer more than this does. Having said all that it is a start and by having it published you have achieved more than a great deal of people so keep at it.

What would I do to improve things? First replace the black spots with some kind of vehicle graphic, it doesn’t have to be brilliant because anything is better than a black spot! I would add some kind of edge to the tarmac to make it a little more interesting. From the little I can tell the came starts too fast so players can be killed very quickly which will upset any player. Some kind of progress meter or counter would be nice. Make a game logo, again anything is better than nothing and while you are at it make an icon.

Are you using Nexus 5? Because it was tested on Nexus phone Android 4.4 Kitkat!

I see…

I agree with you. Google have no approval process, that’s true. But this is a game. The only problem you experience is your hardware. I published to collect enough feedback from forums and my friends.

I am a lame artist :stuck_out_tongue: So it would take time to replace black spots with something more worthy. I’ve added a short instruction to prepare player. Added score as well (currently playing around with scaling and position of the GUI label).

No matter how harsh your feedback was, I am glad you took your time reviewing my app. Thanks. I am halfway completing the work.

You can review my app again after update if you wish…

I’m a lame artist as well, so I found myself one. You could look on various forums and try and find one that wants to jump on the learning boat with you. Otherwise, you could use google 8bit car - Google Search pick one you like and modify it to your needs.
Hope this helps

Thanks for advice joni.guiro!

Well, you shouldn’t be pulling images straight from google. most of them are copyrighted and you could possible putting yourself in trouble. Although not allot of people realize this. Anyways, you should hunt for an artist who is willing to work with you. There is no harm in trying the Collaboration section of the forum or just asking someone if they would make a quick car for you or something. Like Tony West said any thing is better then a black dot.

That’s why I said he should modify the downloaded car. The more you modify it, the better.
