Deciding on assets to use

So I am a programmer wanting to do sort of a remake of an old game “Evil Islands”

So a top-down “action”/“rts” like 3d game.
How do you guys approach environment and assets? I have been scouring the unity asset store for like 2 days and can’t really settle for anything. What is your guys approach. I found “RPG Medieval Kingdom Kit” which looks awesome but I don’t think I can find more assets that fits if I need more props. (Characters and spell effect seem to blend in fine though). A lot of the environment assets looks totally awesome but seem more suited for FPS / third-person and not top-down. Mostly due to the fact that the trees would block the characters.
Preferably want to be able to multiple seasons/climates.

Also asset seem to be using 1 of the 3 shader models which also limits options.

That’s a big problem with asset store art & models assets. It is difficult to find everything you need in a specific style. Generally you’re stuck either finding a person to do some custom work, or learning to do it yourself. I took an approach where I got most of my models custom made and licensed them under terms where I am able to sell them myself on the store to offset some of the cost. Some other options are finding someone to create some art in the style of an existing pack, make simple modifications to the existing art pack to create more variations to choose from (simply changing some colors around can actually do a lot), or you can choose a more simplistic art style you feel your are more capable of creating yourself (my guess is why the minecraft blocky style of art is still somewhat popular).
