Default Character Animation Start Poses

Not sure if this has been asked before, I tried looking it up but could not find anything. But basically I have a character that I wold like to start off inside of a small wooden outhouse... sounds odd I know, but it's part of the story. Now what I'm concerned or wondering about is do my characters always have to start of in the "T" pose or can they by be made to start off from say their "Idle" pose? Because I'm thinking that if he starts off in his "T" pose then with his arms outstretched he will intersects with the outside walls of the outhouse and get stuck when the game starts.

I've had something similar happen with my Robots from the FPS tutorial when I blow them to kingdom come with my grenade launcher they will sometimes get all stuck inside of the military base wire fence, or stuck in a wall from the force of the explosion. But for that I might just need to make their character controller bigger.

all my anims start in their beginning poses specific to that anim. for instance, idle would begin in the start pose of the anim and end with the same keyframes at the end so it can loop. unity rather handily blends the anims for you if you script it or use one of the included scripts. what it sounds like is you have a character in your modelling/animation packages timeline that starts off in tpose then goes into the anims one after the other. no worries, just import it in one go and use unity to split the anims from the start/end poses. check the platform tutorial for an explanation. hope this helps :)
