I just got my Desert Bus clone, Desert Truck, through to the iPhone. Right now, there are a few graphical glitches on non-retina devices (I didn’t have one to test on until after it was submitted), but those will be fixed in 1.1, which has been submitted.
This is mostly a novelty game. It is not hard, and there are no goals. You drive down a straight stretch of endless desert road in a truck that pulls to the left. Driving off road for too long will cause a blowout, but you can manage to mow down a few cacti or road signs before you break down. There is a real time day/night system that uses your device’s clock. The menu will check in your miles traveled to my server, adding to the global miles counter. When that counter hits certain checkpoints, new features will be unlocked. The first unlock, the CB radio, is already unlocked and will unlock itself on the first check in. The second unlock, a dashboard hula dancer, will be released in version 1.1 and unlocked after 20,000 miles. My next planned update is a GPS, which is completely useless considering there will never be a turn to take. I may also add goals and rest areas in new versions, but I assure you none of the updates will be too interesting.
Anyway, I’d love to know what you guys think! I mostly did this because I knew I could get it done quickly and every other idea I have would take a long while working on it alone. Desert Bus for Hope was going on at the time I began to work on this.
