I’ve been following a path of studying some of the LucasArts games after watching the “Double Fine Adventure” documentary. I just stumbled across this site that has a lot of the original game design documents for many of the LucasArts games. If you ever wanted to see some examples of how to create great game design documents, that aren’t too long winded, then look no further:
I’ve got a good GDD for ya. Shooter: Majestice Revelations (alt dl link). Just ignore Warren Spector’s handwriting all over it. It’s a pretty nice example of how none of the hard details made it into the game, but the spirit is totally there.
I know MM2 was supposed to be more like MM1 and was originally slated to have 6 characters, but it was cool to see how it was stream lined.
Very smart call in my opinion. Six character seemed very unnecessary.
The map layout was almost identical I noticed. It’s been AGES since I played the game (Getting the voices to work on modern hardware is a nightmare), but from what I remember it was spot on.
I also read The Dig. Loved that game, I don’t care how uncool that makes me. I never understood why it got so much flak.
