Desk Model

I decided to re-create the desk in my room in Blender. Here’s how it came out:

Another view:

Has shelves, just like my real one:

And here it is with one of my computer models sitting on it:

Again, I can make models to people’s order for a flat rate of $10.00 per model. Let me know what you guys think, feedback is appreciated.

Kinda blocky and plus from what other people have said you can’t even complete job’s.

  1. I don’t know about you, but my desks tend to be, well, essentially a block.

  2. Who exactly said that? There have been times I haven’t completed jobs, but I was not the one at fault and it was usually because my “client” failed to make contact with me. There are many more cases where I have come through with a finished product considerably better than the user expected.

I found your comment to be rude and without a legitimate basis. Please refrain from making these kind of comments; trust me, it’ll make you look better.

I’d work on your grammar as well.

They said you never got back on and blocked them for no reason off skype

Work on the normals. Go to the importer, and click on calculate normals, and under it, a slider, with a number should appear. Make it either 0 or 180(one of them makes it square). Then, show another pic.

Ok, I’m not sure who you are, nor who exactly it is you are talking about, but you are an extremely rude individual who is in no way a contribution to these forums. Please, don’t clog up my thread with useless comments about something you where not involved in and have no business talking about. If you have anything else to say, take it to PMs.

What importer? Not to be rude, I just don’t know what you’re talking about. I’d like some help.

Doesn’t belong in Showcase.

Next time put these kinds of posts in the Collaboration or Commercial Work forums.

You need to work on framing/composition. Your avatar is about 95% wasted space, for example. The preview I got of this thread in my RSS client was completely blue, before I panned over. Why do you present the desk with part of it cropped off?

We need a wireframe shot and a polygon count. As well as texture size and look before someone will buy a model. It needs to be optmized for whatever use especially for 10 bucks for one object.

Just design more and always give close up screenshots that fill the space, not 3/4 empty space and you’ll be fine : )

Good example of a low poly game desk with nice rendering :

Also that computer doesn’t look very good or uvmapped at all. That’s an essential part of all game modelling is to be able to uvmap and texture an object before sale.

Just words to follow by on your next post or edited post : )

Its bad. I wouldn’t pay you at all.

What your kidding? 10$ for something that I can make in 2 minutes in Max? Wow you need to learn the game industry, just saying…

Make me something like this and you have a deal:

Get real. How are you going to balance your 1980’s horizontal PC enclosure, complete with CRT, on top of that?

I have to say these are the least helpful forums I’ve ever been on. Thanks for a terrible learning experience.

Let me know when you find a place on the internet that pays you to learn stuff.

Lol.
To be honest, jt, the model isn’t great. There, I said it. It’s just a few blocks strewn together with a tiling wood texture splattered over it. People will NOT pay $10 for something they could easily make themselves. It needs a poly count, a wireframe, and some proper UVing. And a discount. And that’s minimum.

I thought my advice was pretty good : \

@jtman562 - Here is some good advice (seriously meant in a friendly manner). Before you start selling “anything” you should become proficient with the software/tools. Take your time to learn the 3d software of your choice. Once you got that down it will take some more years to train your eye on color/lighting/textures etc. A good artist isn’t born in one day. It takes years to get to the point where you can offer your services to others and work as Freelancer or for a company.

Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of folks trying to sell their “stuff” because they “think” they got what it takes … reality does look different though. I understand your “excitement” and all that but the sooner you and other aspiring artists realize that it takes a LOT of dedication to become a video/game artist the better. Take baby steps, nobody is rushing you. One thing at a time. It’s important to stick to it and finish one thing after another. Just because you can model a gun for example doesn’t mean you understand the other aspects that are equally important.

Look up tutorials, read magazines, youtube videos as often as you can. Watching others work is of great help.

Im sorry but least helpful forums? Here, is this what you wanted to hear? :
“OMG That model is amazing! You are a modeling master!”
Lets be honest, I have a desk just like that. And it has drawers, not a random block.
Some ideas:
-Add drawers
-Add Ambient Occlusion
-Make it free
-Give PC texture. Nothing is EVER solid colored.
-If you are dying to make cash make a huge pack with a bunch of models. No that does not mean sell both for $10.

No one wants to hire an artist paid for with their hard earned money who makes two colored computers. I know i wouldn’t.
Not trying to be mean but seriously. Think about it. Would YOU buy these models? Most likely no.

Good day.

Your’s along with many other’s, were good. What I’m talking about is those of who say things like, “Work on the texture” or “It’s too blocky”. You’re just repeating what the other users have said and are in no way helping me become a better artist. And those of you who say things like, “Use Ambient Occlusion” or “Use Proper UV Mapping”, are you serous? Don’t you think that if I knew what that was, or how to use it, I would have?

Those of you who have actually helped, thank you. To the others, why even bother to post?
