Detail HeightMaps Anyone!?!? :D

http://hemiogenic.undersoft.net/

I feel sorry for people who have to buy heightmaps.

I agree. This makes me a very sad panda.

Lol, not need to be a sad panda be a happy panda!!!

I wonder if I could make any money by selling a empty game object as an asset…
(I don’t mean to be rude, but $5 for a single heightmap is painful to see)

ymmd
everyone in the unity community is fooling with noobs with their crappy assets and scripts, but this beats everything.

good luck with your store xD

you have to look at the flip side too. When I decide to build or buy, its straight numbers. Decide how much your time is worth in $ per hour and many times its smarter to buy if you can. For example if you set your internal price at $30 / hour, purchasing a heightmap like above for $5 is worth it if it saves you just a mere 10 minutes over creating your own provided it fits in with the game style and look you are working on.

why can’t he sell them if someone is selling lights here xD

Lol if you guys are worried about the price then just tell me to lower em, no need to bash me and complain!!!
if your not interested then don’t complain move on

Who’s selling lights XD

lol

no offense

That’s epic!!!

hmmm… if you expect to sell 1 of each, and each heightmap took you around 5 minutes, you’d be making around 60 bux an hour! I think it is kind of expensive… you want to make more money than a doctor who spent more than 10 years of studying! and heightmaps almost doesn’t require any studying at all!

meh, it’s fine by me. Luckily you’ll save someone who needs heightmaps in a hurry! But still you should conciser selling them all in a pack, you gotta be able to compete with all those free single heightmaps on google!

First off, his lights are pretty awesome. Anyone could drop some directional lights into unity, but it takes an artistic eye to create a professional looking ambiance.

Secondly, heightmaps are a totally viable thing to sell. A good, well-designed heightmap that is game-ready (in terms of texturing, layout, and boundaries) is not something that can be procedurally generated with the click of a button. My heightmaps that I’ve built and textured with a combination of applications took me a good 8 hours to build, but they are better than anything you’re going to make by hand in Unity, or in 1 click with L3DT, I promise you.

Case in point:

@legend411 your terrains are freaking awesome

Now that’s something worth buying, not a geographic landscape with hardly any use.

Terrain is terrain, super easy to make, dynamic to the level your making and not very salable, as some one said you can just get them for free, hell you can get actual topographic maps that cover the entire globe for free if you look hard enough, and they can be used to generate 1to1 scale replicas of any place in the world.

The first thing anyone whos making a game, editing a game, moding a game, or just messing with a 3d app, does is make a height map, I did it, you guys probably did it, and this is probably this guys time to do it. Its a right of passage, not a sellable asset mate.

Actually my first thing was an M4 commando model from a old school tut, with basic a UvWrap photo texture, looked pretty sweet, but a height map wasn’t far off the first thing.

Good luck though.

If you want an idea try making an spring summer fall winter version of the same terrain and sell as a seasons pack, might get you a sale or 2 mate.

No offense to you other guys, but like i said terrain is terrain, might take 8 hours to do but its still terrain, one of the easiest most relaxing parts of game making. And yea you can get more complex with editors and such but your still painting a pic and making it 3d, if you can move the mouse you can make terrain. As for texturing, blah man, just open Photoshop, get your height map, set your magic wand to some lowish threshold, and non contiguous then click the grey parts, black, white and so on and add your texture that way, super easy, effective, and looks naturally right, or paint it on, its very therapeutic.

Please stop bumping this thread and go look at my stuff lolz ← am jealous

Your argument is nonsense. By the same logic, your 3d models are barely salable for the same reasons… because anyone can download blender, make a cube, and make some shitty wood textures in photoshop. You’re implying that just because a basic terrain is easy, all terrains are dumb to sell.

@legend411: sell me some terrains

Now those heightmaps are easily worth $5.
