Since upgrading to 2.6 (and now 2.6.1), I’ve noticed a very strange issue. Detail meshes appear to be not only influenced by wind, but very strongly so - my bushes are now dancing around the terrain, as if the pivot were 50 meters under it.
Doesn’t happen with grass, only detail meshes. And I’ve checked that it is the wind, because they stand still if I set bending to 0.
looks like I need to illustrate. Here’s two screenshots. The only thing changed inbetween is some passing of time. The movement of the bush you see is entirely due to wind.
These are bush models from the Terrain Assets download, so I assume that the models themselves are set up correctly. Besides, they worked just fine in 2.5
I think if you edit the detail mesh via [Edit Details > Add Detail Mesh-or-Edit] and change “Render Mode” to “Vertex Lit”, instead of “grass” that should do the trick.
I am not sure what is going on, but I see what you mean.
If you set any of the “bushes” to vertex lit they turn into sprites or whatever that is. BUT if you use “Rocks” from the Terrain assets package and change those to Vertex lit, everything is fine.
I will run some more tests, but I cant see any difference between the two meshes yet.
any luck in resolving this issue? we have a large amount of understory vegetation to put into an environment and I’ve been forced to implement the simple meshes as trees because of this issue with detail meshes. We also need alpha for the plants so vertex lit render mode is out.
Have you submitted a bug on this? I may if you don’t as I’d like to hear some Unity input on the matter. I don’t think there is anything wrong with my assets, especially since your assets worked in 2.5 and don’t now.
This appears to still happen in Unity 3.4.1. Detail meshes like the bushes in the Terrain Assets package float around on the terrain, unattached to the ground. Has there been any response from the Unity team on this? Seems odd that no one else is using terrain details.
Can anyone else confirm that this is still a bug, and I’m not just doing it wrong? I can’t be the only person who’s ever used Terrain details in Unity.
