Did GUI's bad performance fixed in Unity 4?


As I’ve read around, GUI’s performance is apparently bad, most importantly on mobile devices.

So is it fixed (by it being batched or something like that) in Unity 4 or it’s still advised to ignore it when you are targeting mobile?

And if not, please tell me how I can use it with minimal loss in FPS.


A new GUI framework is still coming, however they noted in the release notes that they have improved the core and stated it can run faster:
