Difference between 2D and 3D audio

Sorry if this is a noob question, that’s what I am in the audio section: a noob.
But I already wasted up a couple of hours trying to understand what’s wrong in something that is clearly technical and away from intuitive.

So I have this OGG sound effect that sounds quite ok.
I made a prefab so that I can spawn it at a certain location when required, but when played in 3D the sound is completely different from the original, the distortion makes it absolutely ugly and useless.
The same prefab, if I switch the spacial blend to 2D works perfectly, but of course I do not have then the space directionality, which is essential.

I tried to change ALL the parameters, bypass effects, there are no reverb zones in the scene, changed the falloff to linear and distance to 50 meters, no doppler or spread effect, but there’s nothing to do.

Anyone has any idea what’s happening?

Downloaded other effects from the Asset Store, and they don’t make this problem.
Maybe Unity has some problem with OGG format? I am using the beta version.
Going to check in the next days.

I’ve never had an issue playing .ogg files in Unity. Perhaps it’s the file that you are using which is the problem?
