Difference between *.unity3d *.assetbundles-formats?

Hi,
I want to know how i could use loading assetbundles at runtime from a webserver. So i compare the old “AssetBundles (AB)” (http://unity3d.com/support/resources/example-projects/assetbundles) with the new “CharacterCustomization (CC)”-resources (Character Customization | Utilities Tools | Unity Asset Store).

In the “AB”-project you can build AssetBundles from a small script “InstantiateResource” where it generates “*.unity3d”-files.

In the new “CC”-project there will be “*.assetbundle”-files generated. So it would be great to know about the differences and there advantages/disad. between these file-formats.

Thanks for your help.
(I´m using unity-pro)

There are no differences, just that .assetbundle is less missleading than .unity3d as .unity3d is a webplayer file.

Ah, ok. Thanks for your fast reply.
