Following the timeline discussion I realized these to apps might be vastly different. A while ago I sent a request for an iPhone editor demo, but no answer yet. I am still demoing unity in comparison w/ some other engines and this would be pretty important to know. Screenshots maybe? Thx
Feature differences between Unity iPhone Publishing Basic and Advanced are compared here:
As for requesting a demo, my guess is that your reply was either delayed by the flood of interest in 2.5 and GDC or that the response to your inquiry was lost in spam filters or other technical issues. I’ve passed along a link to this thread to people who can help make sure you are set up.
In addition to Charles’s answer, I might add that the difference between what you are working with in the Unity 2.5 trial download and what you will get in Unity iPhone, are not that big. The workflow and API are very close to each other only with a few changes here and there to accommodate the difference in platforms. With Unity, we really try to make the experience coherent across all platforms, and furthermore try to make it easy to bring projects from one platform to the other.
Yes, the animation timeline is included in Unity iPhone, but not in Unity 2.5 (will be back in 2.6), so that is a difference.
THX - I read the comparison charts. That the animation bar is included in the iPhone version seems to indicate that the iPhone Unity application is an older version (i.e. 2.0). So one might have the Unity 2.5 app installed for general builds and the 2.0 for the iPhone. In addition to installation issues this raises the question of up-to-date documentation, API calls and such. THX
You are correct in your observation that Unity iPhone is currently a separate application with a pre-2.5 interface. This means that in addition to the differences that are dictated by the target platform (no terrains in iPhone, no iPhone specific APIs in Unity), the iPhone version will not support new 2.5-specific features (most of this was editor-related API). All of that said, in general, projects can be opened and shared between Unity and Unity iPhone.
