Directional Light Shadows With Cookies

This has been asked before in an older post by another person, but has been unanswered so I may as well try myself

a directional light will lose dynamic shadows in editor mode if a cookie is applied (the result works in game mode but its irritating for the artists to have to shift between the two modes)

anyone have an answer or should I submit this as a bug

  1. You have to set up one or more lights to drop shadows. Any light will do fine.

  2. Click on it, and select a shadow type from “No Shadows” to “Hard Shadows” or “Soft Shadows”.

  3. Go to “Edit>Project Settings>Player”, and click on “Other Settings” at the bottom of the Inspector. Now look for “Rendering Path*” and change it from “Forward” to “Deferred Lighting”.
