suddenly having a perplexing problem with an object in my game which was previously ok.
When viewed close up the object mesh looks fine, but as the player camera moves further away the object starts glitching/flickering badly, with edges/faces showing through nearer faces which are occluding them. This is very apparent when the player is far away from the object but with the player camera field of view narrowed to 10… So the object is magnified.
I have tried everything I can think of:
Check mesh normals / faces/ UV mapping in Blender
Reimport mesh
Change materials
Change Material settings…
Nothing seems to work but I guess there is a problem with the mesh somewhere. I just don’t understand why the problem occurs only when the object is far off.
Any ideas?
sounds like you should fix the camera near / far range, you likely cause zfighting.
far / near should be in the range of 1000 to 5000
also reduce usage of alpha / cutout materials to as little as possible as their depth sorting problems will start earlier than for solid materials
It does look like Z fighting but I don’t understand why only one object is affected. Shouldn’t other further away objects be affected even more?
My Camera clipping range is set 0.01 - 200.
The Object doesn’t use alpha materials.
Will tweak the camera settings…
Thanks dreamora, it was a camera issue.
There goes a couple of days scouring my mesh for faults in Blender and buggering about with materials etc…
Adjusting the clipping settings fixes the problem
It seems using a near clipping setting < 0.2 on a camera causes mesh glitching to occur on objects.
Should this be reported as a bug?
I noticed the same thing. What was the lowers you could set your camera to?
