I was trying to think of a harder way for Apple to have you do a distribution build but i can’t.
So i have a valid keychain Cert and a distribution profile which i can see in xcode’s organizer that is not showing any errors. I followed Apples steps 1-7 then happily skipped forward to step 12, built it, zipped it and sent it on but i get a not valid code signing error. i think it is at step 6 where you are suppose to name the project. I used a wildcard for my app and Apple’s instructions are this;
“Example App ID: A1B2C3D4E5.*
Identifier to enter in Xcode: <full_reverse_dns_company_and_application_or_suite_name>”
what the Cuss does “<full_reverse_dns_company_and_application_or_suite_name>” mean? i thought it was Micronesian for “Nutella on pancakes is a mighty fine way to start the day” but i was wrong so i tried this;
com.AllanSteele.Frenzy
Frenzy being the name of my app.
What the ding dang am i missing? besides brains that haven’t been stirred with a fork.
Distribution build requires that the entitlement file is configured and added too and that you have a distribution provision. The dev provision will not allow you to create distribution builds at all.
The corresponding iPhone Dev page where you create the provision hosts more information on the matter
I was using the distribution provision. the docs say to skip steps 8-11 which includes the part about the entitlement file, does it still need to be modified?
Along with Cleaning, the other silver bullet I’ve found with wonky builds is from the Xcode menu, Xcode->Empty Caches. (especially if you’ve had to renew a distribution cert during the lifetime of an existing project)
