Do 2D bones use resources if they have no influence?

So as I understand, when a 2D rig has more than around 60 bones, it can lead to performance problems. So, my rig will probably have more than 60 but not all of them will have influence. The idea is having a general rig for lots of characters and some characters requiere specific bones that other don’t need. That’s why I will probably end up with a huge amount of bones but not all of them will have influence. Any idea about the performance of that? Do bones with no influence consume any resources at all?

Are these bones just static, and not animated? If yes, there is no performance penalty whatsover. However, if they are animated, the transforms will be modified and that might have a slight effect on your CPU performance.

The biggest performance hit would be coming from a Sprite Skins that have complex geometry with lots of vetices, as well as the IK system.

Yeah, they would be animated but with no sprite skins. The extra bones are only used partially depending on the character. I understand that with no Sprite Skins in those bones I could get over 100 bones with no problem, as they would impact the same as an empty object being moved right?

That’s correct. As long as these bones are not referenced by SpriteSkins or IK they are basically like plain game objects.
