Do Asset Store put non-popular asset on sale?

I just wonder if anyone has a relatively unknown asset and got into an official Asset Store Sale? Do they only feature one that already successful? That seem to be the case as far as I can tell, but I’m not totally sure since I don’t exactly follow those sales often until recently.

Yes they can put not-known assets on sale… You gotta submit a form from the publisher page, and they do whatever they do to pick an asset. But it’s not only for popular assets, after-all if people buy your asset, they make money. It’s an incentive for the most part, we pick random asset, if it gets popular then sweet. If they selected nothing but popular assets then eventually the customers will stop buying as all the targeted base of customers have already gotten it… So they just pick random I suppose, no idea what they do behind the scenes for it.

No one outside of Unity will know for sure, but if you look at most of the daily sales you can tell that you never really see a “not enough ratings” asset on sale. They sometimes put a “not enough ratings” asset on one of the carousel items, some of the medium sized banners, or part of their themed kits but I have a feeling they use these as their initial tests to see if something they “think” will do well actually does before they give it a sale spot. I’m sure that’s not the only way, I have a feeling that well reviewed with a lot of ratings products get picked a lot too, not to mention ones that already sell well but it has the feeling of a very human process and I’m sure they’re gathering data all the time.

The secret sauce only they know, but if your asset is so unknown that it doesn’t currently sell well and has virtually no ratings I think it’s fairly safe to say you won’t get picked. I base that on watching all the sales and almost never seeing products like that appear over the last year. If your product generally has good ratings and sells good or ok I’m sure you’re in the pool like everyone else and while that doesn’t guarantee that you’d get picked it gives you a slim chance and the same odds as everyone else.

I’ve had brand new released assets go on sale with not a single rating, in fact most of mine have been on sale at one point or another… of course I’m not sure what they do to approve sales, I just submit, and hope I get an email for it LOL… But nevertheless, it’s possible, but I’m sure there are secret key things they look for lol.

I remember when realtime hearing was on sale it had ratings. Which one of yours was “not enough ratings” (which means less than 3) when it went on sale? Both the times I was selected the product was already established for a few months (around 4 I believe) and had around 10 ratings. I do tend to pay attention most days and almost never see an asset like that on the daily sale.

If something is brand new and they are testing it they tend to put it in the new section first especially if they can tell it’s high quality. Even stellar products like Gaia, Shader Forge, etc. that shot out of the gate and everyone could tell they were good usually if the publisher opted in don’t appear instantly in a sale and are usually at least out for a few weeks first. I’m sure I haven’t logged in every single day but I certainly do most days and usually the daily sales have at least a few favorable reviews.

@greggtwep16 : That might have been the second time it was selected. I honestly don’t remember which ones, I just know quite a bit of them, sometimes more than once. I mean they might have had a couple of reviews, I just could have sworn there wasn’t any at least one time… Been doing this for a few years now, so it’s hard for this 28 year old brain to remember all :stuck_out_tongue:
