Do single player Voxel ( mine craft like ) games sell?

Hi unity users, and developers !

I’ve just finished a Voxel game engine like mine craft in basic that you can dig and get minerals and off-course it generates random seeds for the terrain, everything!

What I’m wondering though, "Do single player voxel based games " really make any sell ?

I mean obviously we have some things to weigh in like price range of the game , or its difference other then mine-craft…

Really what I’m saying is my game will have a lot of different stuff other then mine craft, and not really be a mine craft clone besides the voxel engine and its digging …

For a game clone that covers what minecraft essentially does, and only be single player. Would this still make profit?

Does anybody have some sort of average sales… for around average dollar?

The more of these kind of games on the app store, the worst money u get.
App store seems be flooded with brick and mine games.
Half them are junk, if your game stands out and has excellent screenshots then u in to make alot of money

What are you defining as crap?.. my asset store is bugged at the moment… server influx im guessing …

What im asking is … what would make you pay Idont know 10 bucks for a voxel digging game?

I made block story with my partner.

According to the 3 million people that have downloaded the game, it is a great role playing mobile game where you can build and explore.

I make more money with it than my day job (which won’t be my day job for long)

On an iPhone? I have never purchased a $9.99 app. So, you’d have to be ‘Editor’s Pick’, ‘App of the Week’, have thousands of reviews, and an amazing, mind-blowing video to pull $9.99 from my wallet. Goldbug’s Block Story is a great game, has TONS of reviews, and only sells for $2.99, and still, I only bought it to support him.

The problem is expectations. The ‘Race To The Button’ has set expectations at $0.00. IAP’s don’t fare much better. Pulling $$ from users on mobile devices is EXTREMELY hard. That’s the reality we all fight.

Gigi

That is very nice of you Gigiwoo2, I appreciate it very much.

If I was to start over, I would perhaps take a different route, I would probably make it free to play and find out a good way to monetize it via IAP. Things were different a couple years ago, there are many more plugins today, and adding IAP is not quite as painful as it used to be.

As Gigiwoo2 points out, not all IAP’s do well. The issue is figuring out what items to sell, and what items to give for free. If you can’t give 2 steps without having to buy something, people will move on to some other game, you have to let them get engaged and enjoy the game. If you don’t have enough or the right items for sell, you wont make money.

Voxel games do have a lot of potential, however, a great deal of them aren’t really good which have tainted the reputation of mobile voxel games. You’ll need to make it exceptional if it is to sell. Keep the framerate high, the controls easy to use and sell it at a reasonable price and it could be successful.
