Do you need to provide an opt out option for analytics?

I’ve noticed many, many games on google play and the app store have 1 button that you need to press in order to progress, which accepts the analytics. i’ve heard that the app store frowns upon this, but i don’t see these games being punished for it.

my question is, is this against the rules for mobile stores and can you get flagged for doing something like this? because it seems it’s the norm now.

Hi Mike,

It is best practice to seek consent from the player before recording analytics data. Indeed, there is privacy legislation in a growing number of territories that mandates that you must provide the player with the option to opt out of analytics data collection or risk heavy fines.

I cannot provide you with legal advice but would urge you to undertake your own research on the stores and territories that you want to publish your game on. Pay particular attention to GDPR legislation for Europe and CPPA for California, but be aware other territories can have specific legislation and the stores will have their guidelines that you need to follow too.
