I really hate asking for help on forums but here it goes…
Its what it says on the tin…
Does a Inventory script have to be placed on a Empty GameObject and why?
Simple as that! No specifics!
Should be very simple to answer…i hope…

The answer is actually much more complicated then just a “yes” or “no”. It all depends on how your inventory system is designed. Most are programmed so that you define an item, and the inventory script is placed on the player. Then when the player “picks up” an item, it is removed from the game and stored in the inventory script attached to the player.
I would suggest downloading one of the many inventory systems availible on the asset store. Here is a good one for free: https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/#/content/10384. Just download it and try playing around with it to get the general idea of how an inventory system works.
Nope, not simple to answer at all, because it entirely depends on what you are doing and how your code is written. I could write two completely different scripts to do this where one would have to be attached to an empty GameObject and the other would not.
In other words, if you want a meaningful answer, you have to provide more information.
Ok thanks for posts.
I meant everything in general, i want to create my own, been through lots of tutorials, tried to get a understanding.
Im sorry for my rudeness.
Just because you dont like the reality of the situation doesnt make it right to attack the messanger boy. They did provide an explanation along with a link to source code of an inventory system already working. Be appreciative of the free advise on the matter, not snotty.
You have two people here that tried to help you out, if you don’t want to be appreciative that’s fine, but your response was just flat out disrespectful.
And if you plan on acting like a child, good riddance.
