hey unity. can i make android on unity 5.6.7f1? does unity 5 stopped supporting android? yes or no? do i require android sdk and jdk?
You may still use 5.6.7 to build 32bit Android apps.
Presently Google Play requires 64bit Android apps.
ohhh ok but does it require android sdk? and jdk?
Yes. It requires whatever was supported back then for this build of Unity. Check the release notes. It might work with other versions of SDK / JDK if you feel like experimenting.
ok
Neat way of saying “No”.
I would have agreed a few years back but I think … I think you actually CAN still deliver a 32-bit Android app if you only target the wearables form factor, or perhaps the Android TV form factor.
But those are probably soon gonna require 64bit too.
ALSO: you can always side-load your 32-bit apps or upload them to itch or SideQuest for instance…
part of me wonders why you;d want to use such an old version of unity
because the splash screen awesome. so yeah.
Because it boots in about one second.
There is no 30 seconds of Unity Hub lag.
There is no hub to just suddenly stop responding.
And MonoDevelop comes up in less than a half second.
There is also no such thing as Domain Reload (EVER!).
There’s no Package Mangler to become confused and add deprecated Advertising to your project which you then have to discover, revert, and then rebuild your binary as you do in Unity2018 and onward.
Not only that but it just about never ever ever EVER crashes unless YOU crash it with a infinite loop.
People forget how incredibly blindingly fast Unity used to be just a few short years ago.
For historical reasons? Nostalgia?
I mean there are still C64 games being made and such, so why not still make games with Unity 5?
I dont know. i mean unity 5 stopped updating for best 5-4 years in Feb 28th 2019-March 4th 2019 or whatever you call it. and also unity stopped supporting android so yeah now there is android support on Unity 2019 or Unity 2020. but i found the android game still made with unity 5.
I remember.
Theoretical yes. But I think you will have problems setting up your workplace. In addition, even if you manage to configure Unity5 to build an APK (this is really possible), the APK file you receive will be impossible to publish on sites like Play Market due to increased requirements for the application API. Your application will simply not be allowed to be published. Now you can simply download UnityHub, select installs from the menu on the left, then click the install editor button at the top right, select the version that suits you best. The hub will install the NDK SDK JDK itself. After which the UnityHub can be safely removed.
You can also find out more information about which SDK, NDK and JDK are required for a particular version on the page:
Platform development - Android - Getting started with Android - Android environment setup
All information is showed in three tables.
https://docs.unity3d.com/6000.0/Documentation/Manual/android-sdksetup.html
Thanks for your information. But now I know. It’s require android studio and jdk 7 and ndk.
I think I misled you a little bit. The thing is, if you enter to the menu Edit → Preferences… in Unity 5, and select in opening window ExternalTools. You can easy download SDK, NDK, JDK by pressing “Download” button.
I know that. Thank you. Also I downloaded android studio from unity preference in November 2023
Just to add to this since the thread has been zombified: just because you can build a 32-bit app doesn’t mean you can necessarily run the app even if you side load it. For example my phone (Pixel 7a) doesn’t come with the 32-bit libraries that are necessary to run 32-bit apps. It’s a 64-bit only device.
oh no
i finally solved it (sorry if this question is kinda dumb) the short answer is yes. you can build android on unity 5 or unity 5.6.7f1. stupid of me typing this. there is 2 things. download Android sdk and JDK 7. you can find some youtube tutorial on how to download it. moderator. you can take this question down or disable comment forever.
