Does it exist specialized communities developping for educational goals ?

Hello,
after a quick search, i post it here, hoping it’s the appropriated forum

i’m a teacher, not a programmer
i have a quite precise idea of what unity could do for me, in order to change my way of teaching (using a game)
unfortunatly, as i said, i’m not a programmer. i’m working on unity’s beginner tutorial but, with the time i need to understand it, i’ll need 100years to make the game i’m thinking about

so… here is my question (again) :
Does it exist specialized communities developping for educational goals ?
communities that would ear my needs and transform it in a working game

thx for your answers
altobar

I’ve never encountered a community working on educational games, but if one exists someone else may know.

In terms of someone working on your idea and turning it into a game though that is highly unlikely. There are many times more game ideas than there are games. Ideas are easy, making games is difficult as you’re discovering.

Unless you have the money to fund someone else to make your idea there isn’t much hope. If you’re passionate about seeing it come to life then stick with Unity and do the tutorials. The asset store is your friend if you aren’t able to code too well, many tools exist to help you out. Playmaker is a popular one, I suggest searching through the asset store to see what on there suits your needs. There are free assets as well as paid ones.

Hi Altobar,
Your situation is quite typical. Your project is a bus, you’re the driver, now you just need to fill the seats with the right people. Few people can do the whole thing well on their own. Best you approach reputable developers and open a dialouge? You’ll be hiring contractors just like any other development job.
Lots of us work on educational content. Its at least 75% of my work.

Part of that community exists here - if your willing and able to pay for a development team. There are teams looking to make games, you just have to search around. Look in the collab thread as well as in the commercial offering thread.
The team will probably want to be involved on the initial design as well - since - you have no experience, your idea is probably not a very good and needs a lot of developer experience to properly shape the design.

Look into serious game development and the catch phrases gamification and edutainment.
Academia and the serious game training development sectors seem to overlap and mix together. These areas focus on instructional design and a laser beam focused approach on how to best approach the subject matter, and staying focused on hitting the learning objectives, over the entertaining aspects of a game for learning experience.

This will help to get you pointed in the right direction. Cross referencing serious game stuff with this community is a sure way to find the solution you need to develop your game.

thanks to both of you for your answers
i’m taking a little time of thinking about all you told me

i also sent a message to a programming formation chief, at the university close to my city
maybe a group of students would like to try their chance on my idea

as you said theanmator2b, i start writing a complete version of what i need in the software, in order to be clear on my needs and let the developpers chose the best way to reach them
