I am a freelance Unity developer and I was contracted by a company to make a small game they can sell on their store (alongside other non-game items).
As a freelancer, I make less than $100,000 per year and therefore I use the free license of Unity to make my games. However, this company’s revenue is greater that $100,000. And so the question is: Are they required to buy a license?
Some clarifications:
They are not a game development company. I send them the final build of the game to sell. They do not even have Unity installed on their computers.
They do exercise creative control over what I produce, however. They have the final say over what goes into the game.
Ideally, could someone point me to something official that Unity has put out regarding licensing for freelancers or maybe publishers? This situation feels more like a developer/publisher relationship to me.
