Does this game exist? (FPS, 100% destructible environment, weapon creation)

I would really like to play a game like this, but as far as I know it doesnt currently exist. I would like to create said game if it doesnt exist, however, I am about as good of a programmer as I am guitarist (that is to say, I have dabbled, but not really competent)

Does this game exist anywhere? (or is there one that is close?)

  • First person shooter

-Totally destructible environment (i know PC’s are not quite capable yet, but think 7 days to die level of “realistic destruction”. The more realistic the better.

-As realistic bullet physics as practical (bullet drop, wind effects, reduced energy over distance)

-You design your own weapons (of which you can carry 2 full sized and one small (handgun) sized on your person, plus make additional ones to mount to jeeps and tanks and aircraft etc).

You would be able to choose all of the following about your weapon:
-Overall Quality
-Barrell Length
-Barrell Thickness
-Barrell Cooling
-Barrell Quality
-Trigger Group (single/auto/burst) Can select burst quantity and rate of fire, up to the maximum rate of fire supported by rest of components
-Magazine Size
-Ammunition
-Reciever quality
-Lightening Techniques
-Muzzle Attatchments (Brake/Suppressor)
-Top Rail (scope/laser/light)
-Side Rail (Laser/light)
-Bottom Rail (Handle/Light/Laser)
-Action (Pump, Single bolt, Repeater bolt, semi-auto, Full auto, muzzle loaded, Compressed air/break open, minigun/multi barrell)

Additionally you would create your own bullets, which would have the following variables:
-Overall Quality (cheap, standard, match, elite)
-Type (just a pellet for air rifles, separate ball and powder for muzzle loader, conventional)
-Caliber (from a list, .223, .22 etc)
-Projectile Type (solid, hollow point, pellets, flechetts, ballistic tip, camera in front if over a certain size, explosive (with thin to heavy casing to change fragments), proximity explosive)
-Additional Projectile additions (tracers, dust trail)
-Individual resources eg lead or gunpowder, in each bullet can be be modified for quality individually. In some cases material may be able to be changed completly (ie, steel pellets for air rifle instead of lead)
-Powder Charge (subsonic, light, standard, overpowered)

There would be a single player campaign consisting of many levels, each level gives you a score which in turn means you can buy better weapons and bullets

  • next level unlocked after player achieves score for a previous level
  • levels can be replayed again, highest score is kept, increasing player networth
-Score = points of objects destroyed before dying or quitting, minus time taken (percentage of target time, eg, target time of level 10 minutes, level takes 5 minutes, lose 50% of score), minus dollars spent on bullets, minus collateral damage

Mission Levels

  • Level 1 - Given first gun (.17 air rifle)- Shoot balloon
  • Level 2 - Shoot multiple balloons
  • Level 3 - Rabbits
    etc etc
  • level 100? full enemy army of small country.

Multiplayer that has both:
-Coop mode (same as single player)
-Battlefield type mode. Because weapons would not be balanced in any way, there would be a “Networth Cap”, so player that are not yet a long way through the single player game, or just players that find using lower powered weapons more fun could say play a game with the networth cap at say $1000 which might buy you a .223 bolt rifle and 100 rounds of ammo, or a .22 semi auto rifle with 500 rounds of ammo, players that have finished the game may decide to play with the network cap of billions of dollars which may allow them to buy say an A10 aircraft with a big machine gun in the nose and 1000’s of rounds of ammo.

Killing an enemy player in multplayer would give you and the team a set amount of money to buy better weapons, with one team eventually completely overpowering the enemy team allowing them to complete the victory task (think a FPS MOBA game)

So far I have found these games with components of the above:

  • 7 Days to die, Minecraft both have 100% destructible environments
-“Game in a bottle - Balloon invasion” has the “multiple levels, with levels being able to be replayed to get a higher score to increase networth to buy more upgrades thing”
-No Heroes (in production, saw a thread on here about it) has really good weapon modification (but cant choose calibre, or modify bullets as far as I know, is also multiplayer based instead of single player based). They are also doing what they can RE destructible environment.

Hmm, this is a long post to get my vision across, hopefully its not too long for you all.

TL;DR:

  • FPS with environment destruction, bullet physics and lots of weapon (and later vehicle) customization

There’s a game called Real Life, I think you can go buy some weapons and go shooting at some rabbits, and you don’t even need to be at level 3!

Crysis for PC had something like that(customization and destruction).

Mercinaries had lots of destruction

You could go the voxel route, like Blockstorm. There are a few voxel engines on the asset store to get you started, and since you are (I assume) a team of one, aiming for realistic art assets is not an option.

You should play Red Faction: Guerrilla.
I don’t know about weapon creation. You got weirdly specific with that one anyway. But I think it hits on a lot of the other points.
Environmental destruction in particular is a major point in the game.

I seriously doubt it’s what your looking for, but I think the most recent Worms game lets you make your own weapons. And it has a hell of a lot of shooting and environment destruction.

That game doesn’t exist. RF:G is the most you’ll get for open world destruction stuff, I’ve searched for games like this too… Too bad thq completely messed up with the sequel.

“the biggest selling point of our game is open world destruction. any ideas how to make it even better for the sequel?”
“lets remove the open world and replace it with a crappy linear alien shooter”

Yeah, you go to jail for shooting up the “enemy” in that game though

To be honest im kinda more looking for a game to play, than a game to make, but yes, I completely agree, if I was by myself realistic graphics would be totally out of the question.

Seeing as I have a full time job in a 1st world country (Australia) I would probably be a lot better off just working at my own job doing what I know how to do and paying someone in China (for example) to get me started at least, that way i’m doing what I know how to do an for the same wage I can probably get 3 people who know what their doing somewhat with making the game in another country to do it  .

Watched the youtube vid, that looks really good, except for that its 3d person and all sci-fi, I wonder why I have never heard of it/games like this are not more popular.

-edit-
Wow its 5 years old, we should be able to do better than this now… all mainstream fps these days seem to be so linear (except farcry), its so frustrating…

BF4 probably has the best environment destruction atm, as well as bullet/gun/general physics. even a bit of gun customization.

Can you bring down every building?

They went through a whole lot of trouble to make that destructible environment in Red Faction. I remember the older one, playing it with friends I just wanted to blow holes in walls and go hide in them, didn’t even care about the enemies.

BF4 is pretty fun with its destruction, but its not totally freeform. You can’t dig holes in the ground with weapons and stuff like that. You can bring down most buildings, they dictate which ones you can affect for one reason or another and they all have various damage states and stuff…

Planet explorers has totally destructible terrain and buildings AND weapon creation. You can build your entire weapon out of basic geometry, it doesn’t get more customizable than that. The terrain is pretty much just large voxels too, so it’s hard get more “100%” than that.

I’m not sure where they are on vehicles right now, but I imagine it’s going to be along the customization ability of weapons are right now.

If only Planet Explorers had controls that didn’t feel like a badly coded MMO.

You mean it isn’t? Haha, it feels like it is trying to be xD Sometimes that’s part of the decision… like .hack// games.

I hope that you are not considering this as your first project. Go make some tutorials and small projects and leave this huge FPS as a dream for the moment, that’s the only way.

The only downside to red faction was it didnt do support structures… blowing out the bottom of a pillar didnt make the whole thing fall down.

What about that minecraft like Ace of Spades, fully destructible, and weapons. Might need a bit of work on the weapon system to match your needs but it has the basics.

Or there is Battlefield 4 with it’s levelution system and configurable guns.

I don’t know if you started with a minecraft like game and built it up you could probably do it, and there is a huge minecraft thread on here with detailed information on their cubic progress with Unity.

Wut, yes it does.

Not from my memory of the game. Maybe it did in some circumstances.
