Does this mean Unity is 64 bit now?

http://blogs.unity3d.com/2011/07/28/unity-3-4-web-player-for-64-bit-windows/

Well does it make use of the benefits of 64 bit or is it just that it runs on 64 bit?

You can deploy 64bit windows standalone and web players, the editor is still 32bit.

U__U that´s right, hope Unity team release a 64 bit someday :stuck_out_tongue:

I believe in the comments on the blog post they talk about this is the first step on the way to a 64bit editor. Seems like the support for older Mac OS’s are keeping them back though.

I don’t see why the older Macs should hold them back. They would just use two different versions of the Mac Player (like they have already). They have universal binary, which will run 32 bit on both older OS’s and newer ones, and have Intel only which will run on 64 bit (since the all Intel chips on Mac are 64 bit, anyway).

Likewise, they would have two separate versions of the editor for each platform (32 and 64 for Mac and Windows).

and Beast 64 bits. what about that?.. bake a lot faster… …

I 64 bit editor would be nice…

how do you export to 64bit? i don’t see that in the build settings anyway? (or do i overlook it)

Update: nevermind, found it (drop down)

Beast is already 64 bit, at least on OS X; not sure about Windows. 64 bit is more about accessing >4GB RAM than it is about speed.

That seems unlikely, seeing as how Unity won’t run on anything older than 10.5 anyway. (And, as I mentioned, Beast is 64 bit.)

Windows user here, Task manager reports Beast is 32 bits… but now what you say that mac has 64 bit support i will bake my works on imacs…

64bit intel cpus have many more registers which allows a good compiler to reduce the number of memory requests, so efficiently compiled 64bit code will be faster there. And if your app uses 64bit data types they will be several times faster too, however this is quite rare.

Yes, that’s why I said “more about accessing >4GB RAM than it is about speed”, I didn’t say that there was no speed benefit at all.

I see exactly zilch has happened regarding this since the last post in this thread over 2 years ago… Unity making full use of all available RAM instead of just 3GB is so FREAKING overdue it’s by now extremely unfunny
