I keep reading only video ads in the documentation, but can it support static image ads like this:
Correct, Unity Ads only supports video ads, i.e. no picture or banner ads. We had picture ads previously, but our experience is that video ads are more successful in terms of attracting users to games.

I still see many usecases where image ads would be much more welcome as they’re less invasive (so on and so forth).
