Does Valve Typically Go To Unite?

I’m sure some of us have heard about Valve’s presentation at Unite 2017 about Steam and the recommendation system. The most interesting part to me however was the fact that they were there at all. Is there a history of Valve doing this? Does this mean anything special?

I doubt it. Its not really that much of a stretch of the imagination to think that the developers of the largest digital content distribution system and the developers of the largest digital content creation system would know about each other and attend each others conferences. Unity’s customers are Valve’s suppliers. So it makes sense for Valve to be at a place Unity’s customers will be.

I don’t have a history of Valves participation at Unite. But its not unusual for big players in the industry to present at Unite. The only one that would really shock me is if Unreal or Game Maker showed up to do a Unite presentation.

Valve uses Unity for some of its projects, so why wouldn’t they be there?

I believe they have been to previous Unites (to talk about the lab renderer, I think?), too bored right now to find links.

Typing in valve on Unity’s youtube channel brings up stuff.

These days I wouldn’t be surprised if Valve had people there for VR since that’s a major thing for them.
