Doors - Atmospheric logic game coming to Steam Feb 12

There’s now a forum topic page for Doors in the showcase section:
Doors - Atmospheric first person logic game [Steam] - Community Showcases - Unity Discussions

Doors is a first person logic game where your sole purpose is to traverse a strange world in search of bacon. Everything is based on one simple concept; use logic to determine where you will go. Be careful - some doors lead to bacon, while others lead to death. You will be tested - but you will stop at nothing to achieve the ultimate reward in life: Bacon, and maybe begin to understand where you are… and why.

This is a short indie game developed by a one-man-team. Inspired by Limbo, The Stanley Parable, and the Portal Series, Doors attempts to bring something new to the puzzle genre.

Here is another puzzle from early in the game:

Door 1:
“The correct door leads to bacon. The incorrect door leads to death.”

Door 2:
“This door leads to death. The other door leads to bacon.”

Given that exactly one of the above doors is correct, which one leads to bacon?

I sure like this type of puzzles! The second one is confusing me a bit though, I assume that the door with the correct message isn’t necessarily the door you should go through, right?

I’m curious to see what you come up with for the environments, it should have something special and interesting to it that makes it worth walking around in. Good luck!

Thanks for the comments.

You’re right, the correct door is definitely not neccessarily the one that the player should go through. Sometimes the correct door will tell the player which door does lead to bacon - that allows for more complex and interesting puzzles.

The environments are very bland. In the game everything is clean and white with lots of AO. Because I’m working on this project alone, and I probably have time constraints, I don’t have the man-hours to put into a realistic looking environment. However, I’m trying to use this to my advantage and try to give the player a certain mood - almost like the environment could be abstract, or imaginary. I hope to make everything look very good - even if it looks very plain at the same time. Along those lines I’m always trying to come up with ideas that make the environment more interesting. For example (without spoiling anything), in several places the player walks through corridors that appear to be impossible geometry (think Escher). My goal is to make the player think, even when he’s not solving puzzles.

If you play the game you’ll also find strange signs on many of the walls:

This looks cool. Definitely giving me a portal-esque vibe. This game has an awesome sense of humor, I really like the signs!

I’ve been experimenting with a new aesthetic. Feedback is more than welcome!

Personally, I dont think the ‘Bacon’ idea fits. You’ve got a really cool concept, but the whole bacon thing ruins it for me and kills the vibe.

You have a very clean environment with a sci-fi feel. maybe just me, but i wouldnt expect to be looking for bacon in this environment.

Cool stuff though.

With nearly 3000 votes and a #12 ranking, Doors has just been Greenlit! Thanks to everyone who voted!

Congratulations on the Greenlight.
