Drag and drop

Hi,

There are any option to add a material in the same way I used to do in Maya. Select the object then (Over the material) a rmb and click “add material to selection”.

Thank you in advance

In Unity you just create a new material (Assets → Create → Material)

And drag it onto the object you want to assign it to.

Thank you Joachim,

The problem is when I have too many objects that are so little that is easier to select the object from the hierarchy and then add the desired property.
I think if you have a large amount of elements in the scene will be very helpfull to.

You can drag a material to an element in the hierarchy too.

Hi jeremyace,

Thank you for that shot, I think this will be usefull, I works with all the other elements (Scripts ect…)?

AFAIK it works for everything that you can normally drag to your object. One thing though, I don’t know if they changed this in the latest version, but as far as I know you cannot select multiple objects and apply something to all of them. It will only apply to the object you dragged to. It makes sense, but it would be nice if there was some way to add a component to multiple objects quickly.

One thing I can’t seem to do is drag a new mesh onto a game object.

Let’s say I want to replace one mesh with another. If I simply replace the model file with a new one, that should work. But let’s say I want to make a new prefab that is identical to an old one but with a different mesh. If I drag the mesh onto a game object it is just made a child of the game object. And I cannot seem to drag the new mesh to the inspector properties at all.

Is there a way to do this?

Are you sure you are dragging the mesh?

The mesh is the one i have the cursor over in the screenshot.

I don’t see a screenshot so I assume you are referring to one you sent to the person who originally had a question. I’m a latecomer to this thread.

But since you say it’s possible to do it, that’s all I needed to know. I must have been dragging a game object wrapper rather than the mesh itself. I’ll try it again tonight. Thanks!

Sorry forgot the attachment. It’s there now.
