Drawing sprites with graphics tablet...

Hey all. I have been drawing my whole life and I recently got very into programming so I learned Unity (very user friendly) and bought a graphics tablet. I have never done digital art in my whole life and in many areas I am adapting quite nicely but in others I just dont get it. One such area is alpha channels and how on earth to draw on a white canvas and not import the background. I am using Photoshop CS6 and no matter how many video tutorials on alpha channels I find none of them seem to address what I want to do which is: Draw on a white canvas and import into my unity textures with the white not showing up (transparent). Can someone point me to help in this specific area as I have had no luck just goggling it. Everything is over complicated and people are always just talking about making preexistant pictures have transparent sections and no one focus on video game art. Even if people want to condescend in their answer im happy as long as someone points me in the right direction. Please and thank you

Im a total graphics design noob so I would also appreciate maybe the best (in your guys opinion) tutorial series on starting in the world of graphic art from a pencil and paper background.
Cheers

Hey man, welcome to forums.

I can’t think of a video tutorial series at the moment. But it is real straight-forward. You can draw in photoshop with a white background as long as it is in a different layer. When you begin a new canvas, immediately add a new layer and lock the background layer. That way you don’t accidentally draw on top of the white canvas. When you are finished and ready to import into Unity, simply delete the white background layer.

Try something like SketchBook Pro it’s a bit more tablet friend and cost $40 once.

Thanks so much man. I cant believe it was this easy. lol

I actually have the free version. What are the big differences between free (that came with my tablet) and pro. Thanks for your response.

Also be sure you save out your sprites in an image format that supports transparency (.png, .tga, .tif, and others).

Nothing. They are the same so you don’t need to buy unless their is a bug and you can’t update from the version included with your tablet.
