Hi All,
We’re working on a project with a client for an event at CES and have our pick of the litter when it comes to specifying what hardware (has to be PC) we use. As we’re all on Mac here, we could use some help in specifying what we want in the machines the project will be running on. The final game/application will run on only a few machines so we’re not concerned about legacy hardware, etc.
So a couple of questions:
How much RAM - any reason to get more than 8GB? Any speed/type we should get?
What video card - The game will displayed with a 7K HD DLP projector. I’m assuming the GE Force 9800 GX2?
Also, we’d be better off running XP as opposed to Vista right?
Unless your Unity project is dealing with extremely large datasets, there’s no point in having more than 512MB-1GB of RAM, since presumably you’re not going to be running a lot of other stuff at the same time. (Well, maybe more if you’re using Vista.)
Yes. It can run on 32 or 64 bit OSes, but the process itself is 32 bit. So it can’t use more than 2GB of memory on Windows (for the process). So realistically, going more than 3GB for the total amount of RAM is just useless.
