After working on my first project, using Unity, with some very nice and patient people from the forums.
I feel happy enough with it to show it to the wider community for your comments (good or bad) and to get a general feel of whether people other than my family, who are always to nice, like it.
I intend to release it for the PC/Mac/iPhone and Facebook with an Android version once I have saved enough to go buy a Unity Android Licence and Phone.
Thanks for taking the time to look and play and I hope that you enjoy it.
Andy.
I can already tell you that I don’t like the splash screens. Web games should get right to the point, are you really loading much while the splash screens displayed?
I don’t understand the scoring. When the first structure collapsed, my points went up and then back down.
Thanks for the comments everyone. It’s good to know no one hates it.
@JRavey, Your right about the splash screens, I put the PC Demo version up for everyone to look at. The web version wouldn’t have that, and so I have changed it.
With the scoring every time you select a different strength of TNT, it takes away an amount, to depict the cost of the TNT. So the small one is -10, medium -20 and large -30. It makes you consider whether a smaller bang in a different place would get you more points than a bigger bang.
After the placing of the dynamite, the score shouldn’t go down unless you knock a red block down. I will try and replicate the issue and try to resolve it.
@DavidB, Thank you for the kind words. I hope that people will find it entertaining enough to keep picking it up.
@mrbdrm, Thanks again for the encouragement. I thought it was quite unique and then found a similar game on facebook. I wasn’t aware of one on the game store. What’s the name of it?
Not in the game part. All the instructions are in the help menus.
Maybe a fake loading screen when a new element is introduced would be the way to do it.
The screens would only need to be showen when you do the game the first time so wouldn’t be to repetitive?
We played with having the target score and the player score separate, but it didn’t quite look right. Although a couple of people have mentioned about it being confusing on the same area (plus it doesn’t work as well as I had hoped) so it might be a good idea to revisit the idea.
The score is calculated when any shape hits the bottom collider, it must be a clean hit, so shapes that land on each other but don’t hit the bottom wouldn’t count.
Small TNT -10
Medium TNT -20
Large TNT -30
Green Blocks +10
Blue Bonus Blocks +50
Red Blocks -5
Grey blocks do not add or remove score but do not move and can shield other blocks from blasts.
TNT crates a neutral, but are 3 times more explosive than the large TNT sticks and depending where placed either help or hinder you.
It’s far from finished at the minute. But it’s nice of you to say.
I’m not sure how to take the “you charging for it” so I’ll take it in a positive way. After all I have paid more for some apps from big publishers that I felt were not so good, on the app store.
I figure that it should be worth $0.99 - $1.99 on the app store.
Ad supported version for Facebook
$1.99-$2.99 for a PC/Mac version.
and the nice thing is that it can always change if the sales are not so hot.
If it’s indeed far from finished then you can see above what you must at least match, ideally surpass, in terms of usability, gameplay, graphics and content to get your piece of the pie.
Approximately how long until the game will be fully published??
I am interested in getting a copy
and if I were you, I wouldn’t look at games similar to this. They are all pretty similar, and there isn’t much difference. If you make this different, who knows, it may well become a bigger hit than any of the previous games similar to it.
True, but out of the people who look at it, how many will know of this game, and how many would take the time to research it, rather than spend $0.99 and get playing quick?
Havok, I was thinking the same thing. I also believe this is one of the things that make casual games profitable.
Just look at Guns of Icarus on steam. A really (and I mean really) basic game in all respects. Yet, I’m willing to bet it’s selling well due to the fair price and the sole fact that it’s on Steam (same for the iPhone market)
As for this particular game. I like the physics more than the other examples. The graphics (both structural beams and UI elements) really need some more polish though.
Thanks CreativeCoding. I must admit that I had not heard of the game before, so my argument would then be that if I haven’t how many others have.
I think that there is always room for free and paid versions.
@Havoc@azzogat, Thank you both for your comments. I will look at adding more spit and polish to the GUI and graphical elements.
