Seems a good news!
this is cool ![]()
Its great news for unity ![]()
Lets hope these great news also have a good beneficial impact, not the impact EA normally has on anything it touches.
haha!
I just saw this on Gamasutra: news
I think it means that EA will be a consumer like us, made a deal to purchase mass amounts of licenses at a reduced price. Means an influx of large cash into unity and hopefully better engine for all of us.
And hopefully never means EA starts steering unity.
I doubt they work with the non source licenses unless its a webplayer product and even then not needfully then they might like fusion fall just invest money and time in getting extensions that are private to them (like the webcam support for that AR project)
the past track of externally required things from AA+ fundings and their impact on unity was two fold:
AR stuff → none
Fusion fall:
- asset bundles (pro only), multi terrain blocks (for all)
- cache license that many can never afford which likely has the indirect consequence that we will never or for a long long time not get any reasonable functionality to store files (cause the phase since it was mentioned that they think about solutions has soon reached 2 years without anything happening not even the trivial and requested “cache folder only IO access” or automatic asset bundle caching + max quota control per page to the user as flash does it too etc) which for a tech that advertises web capabilities is a bit special and troublesome, annoying for us as developers
as such I’m waiting to see what it means for us, if there will be additional exclusive functionalities that are sold at $$$ for all others and block normal functionality from happening at all
