I’ve been working on some environments for my next game in my spare time, so I thought that I would upload a couple pictures to see what people thought of the general direction the art is taking. They’re both from an “ancient ruins” world and are a little barren because I haven’t had time to fully model everything. There’s a swamp ruin and a battlefield right now, and a snow level that isn’t quite ready to show off but that I’ll hopefully post in the future along with maybe a player.
I will follow the trend and say that the swamp level is looking amazing. Looking forward to seeing the ruins environment as it gets additional assets too.
Yeah, and I have to say one of my favorite new toy from it is the “color correction curves” image effect, which was really important for the mood of the swamp.
Here’s what it would look like without it (and without fog, since I forgot to activate it when I took the screenshot);
The fog in 3 looks great, I can’t wait to use it. Is there any list of new features for 3? To date, I have just used the release notes to guess at what will be in it.
I honestly couldn’t tell you, apart from the obvious ones that have been advertised heavily. I haven’t had a lot of time to mess around in 3 because of other obligations.
I decided to take the “battlefield” level in a totally different direction, and turn it more into a “sky temple” (I’ll still use the general theme and art direction of the battlefield in a different level), so I’m curious of what people think of it.
This one’s pretty much the polar opposite of the swamp, up in the clouds and hyper-exposed with a very bright, stark contrast. Admittedly this theme change is about 20-30 minute of work so it’s pretty rough at this point, I’m just looking for people’s impression of the general design.
It’s a particle effect, modified from the “dust storm” prefab. What is the Unity 3 fog? I haven’t encountered any fog effects in 3 aside from the standard one in Render Settings.
Not that I know of; I’m just using particle effects, and the built-in fog in render settings is the same as 2.6. I’ve only had time to do a little graphics stuff in 3, mostly with image effects, though so there could be something I don’t know about.
