Thanks!
We are considering releasing a free online version of the game, do you think that it will help boost sales or will people wont bother buying the iPhone version if they played it on PC ?
It’s a problematic game to release a very lite version of on the iPhone. It’s like releasing a light version of doodle jump. it’s a survival game - you need to be fast and gain lots of points before you die.
a web version of this game might be a better asset in terms of marketing, you can send it to anyone, not only anyone with an iPhone and have large sites like shockwave and kongregate spread it , market it to your friends on facebook - and if people like it on the web they might want it on their iPhones.
Loads of games made it online before making it on the app-store (bejeweled, bike or die, bloonz ,that black and white puzzle i can’t remember the name of. and many more). so maybe the best strategy is to make the best PC game we can… maybe I will lock some modes…
You make an interesting point with all the other games that ‘made it’ first as online games. Perhaps you could release a version that limits how many points/how far you get and locked modes.
If you want to throw up a web version of your game, you should try the dimeRocker beta (www.dimerocker.com/beta) and stick it up on facebook. It’d be good to get the feedback
We also thought of releasing our game for free online in a web player. We decided against it. We thought if people see the screenshots and promo videos they would buy the app, but if they play it online why bother getting the iphone version unless your supporting it
Not sure tho…
Make a Lite version of the game a month down the road…
Plenty of good products never made a profit simply because not enough people heard about them or was exposed to them. so I don’t think that having a good product is enough. You gotta have a marketing strategy of some sort, it’s becoming more and more difficult to rise above the clutter in the app-store
I don’t consider publishing a lite version an automatic step to boost sales, if you want your lite version to rise above the clutter you still have to do some other marketing,
Good luck with Mehware’s Lockdown! looks real cool!
