I’m grabbing GEOTIFF files from Google Earth to use as heightmap data for Unity’s Terrain Engine. The problem is that the files seem extremely dark when opened in Photoshop to convert to a RAW file and if I adjust the Levels in Photoshop then obviously the depth fidelity is compromised.
Does anyone know of a good tool to convert/edit these GEOTIFF files so that they play nicely within Unity?
Sorry it’s taken a little while to respond (I had to search in my archives for this). You might want to try MicroDEM to open the GEOTIFF file.

Cheers,
These Files are High Dynamic range, you can normalize the levels in an application that can handle HDR. I have used Combustion for this.
I seem to recall that Linear to Log conversion is needed.
Otherwise try writing a parser for
