Editor crashing when opening after making a change to project

Greetings,

I started having an issue today. I am using 2021.1.1.0a5 and I have a project that I’ve been working on for months.

When I tried to open the project today it crashed:

It happens every time I try to open it.

I had just made some minor changes (added a new script) so I reverted any outstanding changes using git and it still crashes when trying to open.

I blew away my local repo and cloned it from azure and was able to open it (it took several minutes of course).
I made a couple minor changes and everything ran fine.

But if I close the editor and try to reopen it again it crashes with the same error. So basically, it appears that I am stuck with not being able to do any new work on this project!!!

I reported a bug but I’m really hoping someone else on this forum has encountered this and has a solution.

I think this may be related to .meta files existing for assets that didn’t exist. I was having LFS issues pushing to Azure and excluded some files. I don’t know why initially opening the project works but then opening after saving fails.

I reimported the missing packages to fix the warnings, saved and reopened successfully.

A more descriptive error message would be helpful.
