Editor mouse misery. The scroll wheel gets stuck in pan mode.

It doesn’t seem that anyone has this problem but me, but it’s driving me potty so I’m pleading for advice.

I have a Logitech Proteus 502 wired mouse. It’s wonderful for one vital reason, the inertial scrolling is fantastic and I could never go back to any other kind of mouse. It has one nasty drawback, the scroll wheel ‘click’ is insanely stiff. Not usually a problem but in Unity … you click and hold the scroll wheel … a lot.

Every twenty minutes or so I’m panning with the scroll wheel in the Editor, I release the button and … nothing happens. The editor is stuck in pan mode. The little hand just won’t go away. I can click anywhere outside of the scene window and all is good, but the minute the mouse moves back into the scene window, the hand appears. When this happens even panning doesn’t work, you can’t do anything in the scene window except click repeatedly in the top right, changing from isometric to perspective. That works and sometimes, usually, doing this two or three times will fix it. But sometimes it wont. The only solution is to shut down and restart. The little buttons in the top left that should change mode can be pressed, but they don’t do anything. The hand remains.

Something’s getting stuck. It’s almost certainly related to my mouse and it’s stupid stiff button. I’d buy another mouse to avoid this grief but this is the only problem I have with it, so … really? And if so, which one?

Thanks
