Editor's built-in AssetStore is SODAMNSLOW! Cant load paid assets! Am I the only one?

Really, it’s all in the thread title.

This is killing me on a daily basis but today is especially slow. Reloading via the AssetStore window’s tab-menu doesn’t help either.

And when it ever does load after hours (not kidding here, WTF), then who designed the way licensed assets are loaded into its Downloads section? It’ll be another 10-20 minutes before they finally show up.

Now I have a lot of assets — keep throwing good money at the Asset Store, go figure! — but surely whoever programmed the AssetStore window did test this with the hypothetical extreme test-case of someone having licensed every single asset, right?

Rrrrright?

Don’t know if that Downloads section of the built-in AssetStore window is done with jQuery or “DHTML '99” or whatever, all I know is when it does even populate after much agony, it still reacts sluggishly as hell.

Oh and just to import an asset I legally bought on Unity’s AssetStore, I turned off my machine’s WiFi so I can force offline mode and just import the damn thing. WELL GUESS WHAT all assets are completely randomly non-ordered. Can’t figure out the logic behind the ordering of my hundreds of assets anymore. Icons not in there either, and no freaking interactive sorting possible. Who made this mess the mess it is? What in the effin… oh boy I gotta calm my weary nerves.

Sure, I’ll just double-click the *.unitypackage in C:\Users\whatever\AppData\Roaming\Unity\Asset Store but come on Unity, this isn’t what I was sold now, is it?!

Oh and my specs? Totally fast internet connection, and a 32GB RAM Dell “Precision” Workstation with 64-bit Win7. Surely I’m not too slow to run Unity? Well every day it feels like I am…

I don’t even… oh man…

This thread confirms I’m by far not the only one suffering from this.

Which begs the question…

will this be tackled? :sunglasses:

bump … bump … bump … BUMP!

Hey, Unity Technologies, I poured thousands of dollars into your Pro licenses and Asset Store assets and the consistent continuous DAMN SLOWNESS of the built-in “Asset Store” window is killing me!!!

What’s your freaking solution for this?

Sure, I may have many hundreds assets licensed by now. But I would still expect the “Downloads” panel, which is the only real way I can access them, to show up faster than after 5 minutes or so in some cases.

And how about some damn client-side caching please? I mean this is app-design 101. Do I have fast internet? Sure, but your servers are constantly slowing out really badly plus the ridiculously inefficient design of the “Downloads” panel means its crawling to a halt. And on top of that you keep on re-downloading the ever same images and metadata from your really quite slow servers time and again and again and again. Oh, I closed the “Asset Server” window accidentally and need to reopen it for another import? Well I can start cooking me some dinner and refurbishing my place while that crap loads up. Did I mention I’m on a 32GB RAM workstation? Ah well Unity Editor is still 32-bit in 2013 RIGHT? So 29GB out of those won’t be any use to me or Unity Editor. What a sick mess of legacy baggage when I think about it… I’m sure there will be (official/default) 64-bit support in the next major version 5.x, I better prepare my sad wallets today!

Well really effing great. What a “productivity” suite I got me there

This was a regularly scheduled rant. Check back in a few days when I repeat this ordeal! :-x :-x
