Am I missing something or is there no control for properly embedding videos in posts? Pasting the link just leaves it as a link.

Sounds like a bug.
I just pasted the link here as text, waited a second and it automatically embedded it:
Oh ok, looks like the link has to be on a new line, doesn’t work if it’s added at the end of a line. Cheers!
