Hi, i see big mmos and rpgs without enemies colliding eachother. Why is that? What do you think? Should we make enemies collide and react to eachother or just simply ignore if they are inside the other monster?
All answers are appriciated.
(I am making a simple game for fun and for learning unity, but i cannot decide it.)
That’s a good question, I’ve seen that in games a lot too. The only time it’s troublesome is in something like runescape where you can only see the top most monster. If you’re in a multi-combat area and you see 1 monster, you can run over to attack it and get the delightful surprise of there actually being 8 monsters in that 1 spot who have all decided to attack you.
In other games if you can tell things are overlapping, it’s less of an issue. It’s going to bother some people because visually it looks kinda meh, but it’s going to bother everyone if it affects gameplay. Imagine you’re making a notarget game where you have to manually aim all of your attacks… and then enemies start clipping through each other. Your attack is going to hit which ever bounding box is sticking out the farthest, and you don’t know what you’re going to hit.
If you are making a game with AoE attacks, it might be less of an issue as long as enemies don’t eclipse each other visually as they stack.
